BBC Encourages Early Start To Coding For Youngsters

·

With February half-term not so far away, now could be a great time to book your school-age children into a coding camp, not least because they might already have had their interest piqued before even starting school.

Resources are increasingly being focused on children at ever younger ages to consider the importance of coding and make them familiar with it. The latest instance of this has been launched by the BBC channel CBeebies.

It is launching a new series called Wonderblocks that is aimed at preschool children in what it describes as an attempt to teach “pre-coding skills”. This follows previous series made alongside Alphablocks Ltd and Blue Zoo Animation Studio, such as Numberblocks, Alphablocks, and Colourblocks.

Managing Director of Alphablocks Oli Hyatt said: “We are committed to continuing this journey with the incredible Wonderblocks, helping to shape a brighter future for the next generation of little learners."

The series may help get kids thinking about coding and associated topics at an early age, which their older siblings who are now in school may be excited about.

Of course, the older kids will still want to be ahead - who wants to know less about something than their little brother or sister? And the best solution to that can be a coding camp in the holidays.

Moreover, because they will go to a coding camp, their younger siblings will think it normal to do likewise when their time comes, which means they can take the next step up from the introductory material they have already encountered. It also means that coding will be something that they can all enjoy doing together in due course.

Most London boroughs will be off for half term for one week from February 17th, so there is still time to enrol your school-age children into a coding class before then.
