In this camp, young children are introduced to coding and technology through short accessible activities that require no previous experience. Students will have fun making their very own robots using basic robotics, and develop basic coding skills using Scratch Jr, an introductory programming language designed specifically for young children. Space cadets week takes young astronauts on a journey through the galaxy as they complete their mission to the moon through a series of tasks and challenges. Ocean adventure is a week full of mermaids, pirates, sharks and dolphins as our explorers work together to find the hidden treasure chest through sea-themed robot races and digital creations. Time travellers week takes globetrotters on an adventure back AND forward in time to visit exciting events whilst learning basic coding skills in time to travel back to the 21st century!

Learning outcomes

Throughout their week at camp students will:

  • Learn problem-solving skills
  • Cover the fundamentals of coding (loops and logical reasoning)
  • Gain an understanding of basic robotics using LEGO WeDo, Dashbot, Ozobot and Robo Wunderkind to build and race robots!
  • Get creative with Scratch Jr, an introductory programming language that enables young children to create their own stories, animations and games
  • Come away from the with basic ICT skills and introductory computing concepts that are an important first step for children

The course is punctuated with regular offline and off-screen outdoor breaks to ensure that young learners are able to focus and engage throughout the day and keep active.

Information for parents

We ask that you do not sign up children younger than 5 up to our Minis course as we are not Ofsted Licensed for under 5 year olds.

Camp structure

This is a sample schedule for a typical day at camp. In between each lesson there will be a 15-minute snack break, or a 1-hour lunch and play break.
10.00 - 11.00
Lesson 1
First off we'll get to know our teacher and classmates through some great mini games. Once we're all friends, we'll be introduced to our activity for the day. Let's jump in to coding!
11.15 - 12.30
Lesson 2
Now that we've had a healthy snack, we're ready to get right back into our activity. We'll carry on flexing our creative muscles by designing, coding and building our project.
12.30 - 13.30
Lunchtime
After half an hour for lunch it's time for some offline, outdoor time. Students take part in activities ranging from inflatable obstacle course races to football tournaments, scavenger hunts to water games (fingers crossed for some sunny weather!).
13.30 - 14.45
Lesson 3
Let's refocus after lunch and playtime by diving into building our robots!
15.00 - 16.00
Lesson 4
It's time to finish off our project for the day and show it off to the rest of the class. Time has flown by - let's tidy up our work stations, pack up our things and get ready to go home!
I liked making my robot dance!
