Happy Programmer’s Day

Happy Programmer’s Day - 13 / 09 / 2017

Today is a special day for all our young coders. Many people observe International Programmers’ Day on the 256th day of the year because “256” (28) is the number of distinct values that can be represented with an 8-bit byte, and 256 is the highest power of 2 that is less than 365, the number of days in a year. Here at blue{shift} we are celebrating Programmer’s Day by remembering our digital pioneers, and looking forward to the next generation of coders.
With the new school year starting, we are seeing many new faces join our after school clubs, eager to learn all about programming. We will be talking to all our young coders about Programmer’s Day and asking them ‘Why do you like to code?”
Our digital pioneers have been instrumental in getting us to where we are today. We have five interesting facts about original programmers and their achievements:
  1. Ada Lovelace is credited as being the world’s first computer programmer
  2. Computer programming would be the third most diverse language if it ever became a spoken language
  3. ‘Spacewar’ is the first known video game to be played at multiple computer installations, making it very influential in the early history of video games
  4. Most web pages are built using more than one programming language
  5. Today, computer games are so popular that games industry is worth more than the movie industry
How are you celebrating Programmer’s Day?
