Important Information

  • How does it work?

    Our virtual classroom teaches your child programming skills in your home.

    1:6 teacher:student ratio with an experienced blue{shift} teacher leading the class.

    With four weekly lessons our virtual classroom is a great form of social learning - kids explore code together!

  • Each student will need:

    • A laptop or computer with a high-speed internet connection
    • A headset/earphones
    • A webcam and a microphone
    • An adult to help set-up

    We will provide instructions on setting up our video conference software before the first lesson.

All of our teaching staff undergo a rigorous application and on-boarding process. Each teacher is then vetted by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Course Information

Is your child a programming whizz? Do you want to encourage them to keep creating increasingly more advanced code?

This club combines text-based programming with the world of the Avengers to teach real-life skills using JavaScript… all through hands-on coding projects and individual creativity! Our Advanced JavaScript clubs focus on extending students’ creativity and problem-solving skills, developing students' computational thinking, and preparing them for any next steps they may want to take into the world of computing.

JavaScript is the hidden language that makes the digital world more interesting; it makes your favourite websites interactive, enables online games to load swiftly and smoothly, and is a source of contemporary art. Students will gain a strong grounding in understanding complex computational concepts such as variables, constants, game score tracking, collision detection, and nested loops and arrays as they make their own Avengers themed games.

As with our previous JavaScript clubs we take a project-based approach to the language. However, in the Advanced JavaScript: Infinity Stones Games club we challenge students to go a step further; we want them to start thinking about how they can take their code to the next level and apply it to their own interests and passions (and beyond)! 

As such, this class is ideal for any students who have a creative flair or an interest in gaming, as the focus on both of these industries gives plenty of opportunities for students to make and design tech associated with their hobby. It's also a great option for children who are considering a career in computer science; JavaScript is widely used within the industry. 

Using video conferencing software, our virtual classroom provides students with an innovative approach to coding that balances learning computational skills with nurturing students’ curiosity and sense of discovery.

With a maximum teacher:student ratio of 1:6, each of our online clubs is the perfect opportunity to engage kids and grow their coding confidence! Once set-up within our virtual learning environment, every member of the class can share their screen and other materials with the teacher, creating a collaborative atmosphere and ensuring every student can receive immediate feedback on their work.

Your child will learn:

  • Learn how JavaScript is used across the web in a variety of different ways
  • Develop their knowledge of more advanced JavaScript syntax and concepts
  • Be introduced to creating apps and games with Javascript libraries
  • Find out the unique features and limitations of p5.js
  • Be exposed to computational concepts that are used within industry and further study

Course Structure

16:30-16:45Set Up
Students will set up their coding environments, share any work from the previous classor projects they have done independently

45 minutes of focused coding, led by our fantastic teachers. Students will face new challenges, solidify their knowledge of coding concepts and flex their creativity!

Please note, any students arriving 10 minutes into this section of the lesson will not be admitted into the class. Please read our lateness policy for more details.

17:30-17:45Wrap Up
Students will complete quizzes & challenges to test their knowledge and share their work. 

Lateness Policy

Customer feedback has focused on how students joining late can be majorly disruptive. 

Therefore we have imposed a cut-off time for joining lessons. If you are 15 minutes late to a lesson you will not be admitted into the class. We will ensure late students can catch up by using the recordings of the lesson and additional class resources!

Recordings of Lessons

Lessons will be recorded and uploaded onto the class padlet as a resource for students who have missed a lesson or arrived late.

Recordings of classes will only be available to class students, the class teacher, and the blue{shift} team. Recordings will be deleted 7 days after a course ends.
