Important Information

  • How does it work?

    Our virtual classroom teaches your child programming skills in your home.

    1:6 teacher:student ratio with an experienced blue{shift} teacher leading the class.

    With five daily lessons our virtual classroom is a great form of social learning - kids explore code together!

  • Each student will need:

    • A laptop or computer with a high-speed internet connection
    • A headset/earphones
    • A webcam and a microphone
    • An adult to help set-up

    Before each session, we will provide instructions on setting up our video conference software.

Course information

Is your child looking for their next coding challenge? Does your kid love Hollywood jungle movies? Ever wanted to visit a digital rainforest on the back of a motorbike?

During this course students will further develop their already advanced JavaScript knowledge to create complex code… all whilst going on a jungle adventure! This class combines text-based programming with lessons and projects inspired by the film franchise Jumanji and other Hollywood jungle films. Our Jungle Adventure course challenges students to think outside of the box, developing vital logical reasoning and problem solving skills. It also serves as an ideal creative outlet during time at home as students can customise their projects however they like! 

Students will gain a strong grounding in understanding complex computational concepts such as variables, constants, game score tracking, collision detection, and nested loops and arrays as they make their own creations. Having completed this course, students are well prepared for any next steps they may want to take into the world of computing.

  • Lesson 4: Character Animation
  • Lesson 5: Background Animation

As with our previous JavaScript courses we take a project-based approach to the language. However, in the Advanced JavaScript: Jungle Adventure course we challenge students to go a step further; experimentation, creativity, and customisation are key elements. We want our students to start thinking about how they can take their code to the next level! 

As such, this class is ideal for any students who have a creative flair or an interest in gaming, app development, or web design, as the focus on these elements and skills gives plenty of opportunities for students to make and design tech associated with their passion. It's also a great option for children who are considering a career in computer science; JavaScript is widely used within the industry. Finally, it's a good option for any student who is seeking a coding challenge with other passionate young coders!

Please note: this course is only suitable for students who have a good knowledge of JavaScript. Depending on their experience we offer Beginner and Intermediate JavaScript levels for other children.

Using video conferencing software, our virtual classroom provides students with an innovative approach to coding that balances learning computational skills with nurturing students’ curiosity and sense of discovery.

With a maximum teacher:student ratio of 1:6, each of our online courses is the perfect opportunity to engage kids and grow their coding confidence! Once set-up within our virtual learning environment, every member of the class can share their screen and other materials with the teacher, creating a collaborative atmosphere and ensuring every student can receive immediate feedback on their work.

Your child will learn:

  • How to compose JavaScript syntax and coding in order to produce complex games.
  • A number of advanced computational concepts from constants & collision detection to nested loops & classes.
  • How to utilise JavaScript libraries within their programming.
  • Important computational thinking and logical reasoning skills.
  • Advanced debugging techniques, as well as other creative problem-solving techniques.
  • How JavaScript is used within the tech industry and further study.

Class Structure and Lateness Policy

10:00-10:15Set Up
Students will set up their coding environments, share any work from the previous day or projects they have done independently

45 minutes of focused coding, led by our fantastic teachers. Students will face new challenges, solidify their knowledge of coding concepts and flex their creativity!

Please note, any students arriving 10 minutes into this section of the lesson will not be admitted into the class. Please read our lateness policy for more details.

11:00-11:15Wrap Up
Students will complete quizzes & challenges to test their knowledge and share their work. 

Lateness Policy

Customer feedback has focused on how students joining late can be majorly disruptive. 

Therefore we have imposed a cut-off time for joining lessons. If you are 15 minutes late to a lesson you will not be admitted into the class. We will ensure late students can catch up by using the recordings of the lesson and additional class resources!

Recordings of Lessons

Lessons will be recorded and uploaded onto the class padlet as a resource for students who have missed a lesson or arrived late.

Recordings of classes will only be available to class students, the class teacher, and the blue{shift} team. Recordings will be deleted 7 days after a course ends.
