Keeping it fresh

Regardless of the course or how many times a student takes it, we do not repeat previous projects.

Students are always challenged and, when they are ready, they work on a fresh new projects.

Detailed information

JavaScript is the most commonly used programming language in the world. It’s the hidden language that makes the web more interesting, your favourite sites interactive, and online games so fun!

This camp is for young intermediate coders who want to move on from Scratch onto text-based languages. ‘Bitsbox’ is a great introductory format of Javascript. It allows kids to learn how text-based languages work in an engaging way; through making their own games that are playable on an app students are able to see directly how their actions affect the tech.

In this way, campers are introduced to Javascript concepts, and by the end of the week, will be able to walk away with their very own, original video games that they can play at home with a personalised link. Not only this, but students will work on their own projects, which have included bringing robotic inventions to life with cardboard. The projects help students to understand how physical computing works; the robots can use sensors to judge distance, temperature, sound, and even infrared!

Your child will learn:

  • Introducing the idea of text-based languages
  • Introduction to basic JavaScript
  • Computational programming concepts that are used in industry
  • Logical reasoning and computational thinking
  • Important computer skills such as touch typing
  • Learning game design concepts like collision detection
  • Physical computing with a variety of robotics
  • Which text-based languages are used in industry
