Detailed Description

Building upon touch-typing, campers learn one of the most popular children’s coding languages: Scratch. Scratch programming builds a strong foundation in computer science through creating games, storylines, and animations.

We extend their knowledge from the screen to the real-world through our robotics sessions. Our campers will make their own game controllers with Makey Makey circuit boards and build Lego WeDo robots.

Using a variety of robots, from Ozobots and mBots to WeDo and Dash and Dot robotics, students will use their programming skills to create their own customisable creations!

In one week, your child will have more experience with computing than many children have in a year at school. We have two levels of Scratch and Robotics education at blue{shift} to create a programming foundation as your child progresses on their coding journey.

Topics Covered

  • Introduction to computational concepts and thinking such as selection, conditionals and loops
  • Logical reasoning and computer skills
  • Blockly-based programming
  • Touch-typing and confidence using computers and robotics
  • Basic programming with character movement and storylines

Prerequisites

This is a course for new coders aged 7 to 9. Students should have some experience using a laptop, a keyboard, and a mouse. No coding experience is needed in Creative Coding Level 1.
