Detailed Description

Scratch is one of the most popular children’s coding languages and a great foundation for future coders. Using Scratch programming builds a strong foundation in computer science, teaching computational concepts through creating games, stories and animations.

Scratch level 2 builds on the previous course by building more advanced programs and games and covering tougher coding concepts. We extend their knowledge from the screen to the real-world through our robotics sessions and coding themed offline activities. Our campers will use a variety of robotics, using their programming skills to create customisable creations. These include programming their own game controllers with Makey Makey circuit boards, building Lego WeDo robots, Ozobots and programming Dash robots.

In one week, your child will have more experience with computing than many children have in a year at school. We have two levels of Scratch and Robotics education at blue{shift} to create a programming foundation as your child progresses on their coding journey.

PLEASE NOTE: Our January camp is much shorter so we will not cover all the robotics sessions mentioned above. During the 2 days, students will be challenged with complex Scratch coding projects and get the chance to program cool robots.

Prerequisites

This is a course for intermediate coders aged 7 to 9. Students should have some experience using a laptop, a keyboard, and a mouse. If your child has participated in a Scratch camp or after-school club or has had experience coding, they could progress onto Creative Coding Level 2. A typical day at camp

Early drop-off begins

9:45-10am

Welcome Campers! Sign in, wave your adults goodbye and buckle up for a day of fun.

10am

Kick off with ice-breaker games and get to know each other – we guarantee you’ll get to laugh at your teachers and their silly antics!

10:15am

Introduction to our activity for the day. Let’s get coding!

11:15am

Fruit snack and water.

11:30am

Back to coding, building, designing and creating.

12pm

Lunch box time – grab your packed lunch, fuel up and re-focus that brain of yours.

12:30pm

Outdoor games – let’s get physical (we may even re-enact some of the games we make on our laptops!) If the weather does not allow it, we will do some hands-on activities inside.

1pm

Back to class – let’s build robots!

2:15pm

Short break

2:30pm

Finish off building and engineering - it is time to program the robots!

3:30pm

Show and tell – you’ll get the chance to impress your friends with your fine handiwork, attention to detail and creativity.

4pm

Pack your bags, go home and chill out!
