Course Information

Does your child love making their own art? Are they obsessed with gaming? Give them the skills to design their own digital art and computer games!

JavaScript is the hidden language that makes the digital world more interesting; it makes your favourite websites interactive, enables online games to load smoothly, and is even a source of contemporary art. As such, in this club we delve deeper into this highly versatile coding language as students explore a programming 'library' called p5.js.

Our Intermediate JavaScript: Introduction to p5.js club combines text-based programming, innovative digital art projects, and game design to teach real-world skills… all through self expression and individual creativity! This club is ideal for any students who have a creative flair or an interest in gaming, as the focus on both of these industries gives plenty of opportunities for students to make and design tech associated with their hobby.

Across the term we introduce students to p5.js and demonstrate the awesome things you can do with this JavaScript library. From here students are given the freedom to interpret and utilise p5.js in their own way, as we set a number of different hands-on projects.

These class projects demonstrate the real-world applications of coding to students; whether it's creating a graffiti drawing app, their own version of the app 'Paint’, or their own JavaScript based game, students will come away with their own unique creations to show off to their friends and family! 🚀

Students should have some experience of text based coding - if they don't we would suggest attending one of our JavaScript for Beginners clubs. Having completed this Intermediate level students will have gained key programming knowledge that they can use to progress onto our Advanced JavaScript courses.

If you are unsure about the suitability of this club for your child then please contact us - we'd be happy to help work out if it's the right fit.

During this course your child will:

  • Learn how JavaScript is used across the web in a variety of different ways
  • Develop their knowledge of more advanced JavaScript syntax and concepts
  • Be introduced to creating apps and games with Javascript libraries
  • Find out the unique features and limitations of p5.js
  • Be exposed to computational concepts that are used within industry and further study

Lateness Policy

Customer feedback has focused on how students joining late can be majorly disruptive.

Therefore we have imposed a cut-off time for joining lessons. If you are 15 minutes late to a lesson you will not be admitted into the class. We will ensure late students can catch up by using the recordings of the lesson and additional class resources!

Recordings of Lessons

Lessons will be recorded and uploaded onto the class padlet as a resource for students who have missed a lesson or arrived late.

Recordings of classes will only be available to class students, the class teacher, and the blue{shift} team. Recordings will be deleted 7 days after a course ends.
