Course information

Designed for our youngest students, our Mini Coders course takes a novel approach to teaching code to small children. Starting with the basics, our specially designed activities require no previous technological experience, allowing young students to learn to code together in a supportive and comfortable environment.

In this course, children will explore computational thinking, programming, and game making as they learn key foundational skills - both coding and more generally! Small class sizes and experienced teachers help students stay focused, whilst short projects and hands-on activities help students grasp the material easily. Plus every student will finish the course with these fun projects that you can share with friends and family!

Throughout the course your child will develop their programming skills using Scratch Jr, an introductory programming language that enables young children to create their own stories, animations and games. This course will teach basic ICT skills and introductory computing concepts that are an important first step for children in both coding and future life. On top of this, we emphasise freedom of expression, giving every student the opportunity to experiment with programming. Indeed, with project based learning children are encouraged freely express their creativity as they write and modify code!

Using video conferencing software, our virtual classroom provides students with an innovative approach to coding that balances learning computational skills with nurturing students’ curiosity and sense of discovery.

With a maximum teacher:student ratio of 1:6, each of our online courses is the perfect opportunity to engage kids and grow their coding confidence! Once set-up within our virtual learning environment, every member of the class can share their screen and other materials with the teacher, creating a collaborative atmosphere and ensuring every student can receive immediate feedback on their work.

Your child will learn:

  • Vital problem-solving skills
  • How to think like a programmer
  • The fundamentals of coding, loops, and logical reasoning
  • How to program interactive stories or animations
  • How to make simple apps and games
  • An introduction to coding with Scratch Jr

11:00-11:15Wrap Up
Students will complete quizzes & challenges to test their knowledge and share their work.

Lateness Policy

Customer feedback has focused on how students joining late can be majorly disruptive.

Therefore we have imposed a cut-off time for joining lessons. If you are 15 minutes late to a lesson you will not be admitted into the class. We will ensure late students can catch up by using the recordings of the lesson and additional class resources!

Recordings of Lessons

Lessons will be recorded and uploaded onto the class padlet as a resource for students who have missed a lesson or arrived late.

Recordings of classes will only be available to class students, the class teacher, and the blue{shift} team. Recordings will be deleted 7 days after a course ends.
