Detailed information

In this course, children will explore computational thinking, programming, robotics and game making as they learn key foundational technology skills.

Designed for our youngest students, our Mini Coders course takes a novel approach to teaching code to small children. With short accessible activities that require no previous technological experience, this course is punctuated with regular breaks to ensure that children are able to focus on the key takeaway components of coding. Furthermore with project based learning, children are encouraged to make and create with inventive craft and engineering tasks.

Our Mini Coders start their journey by becoming familiar with coding logic and reasoning using tablets or iPads. They will get the chance to create their very own incredibly cool robots! We will introduce Mini Coders to basic robotics, circuits and motors with different kits.

Your child will develop their programming skills using Scratch Jr, an introductory programming language that enables young children to create their own stories, animations and games. This course will teach basic ICT skills and introductory computing concepts that are an important first step for children, especially when grasping the curriculum of the new National Computing Curriculum. During one week at blue{shift}, your child will learn more than most kids do during the whole school year!

Your child will learn:

  • Introduction to coding with Scratch Jr
  • Problem-solving skills
  • How to think like a programmer
  • Fundamentals of coding, loops and logical reasoning
  • Robot building with Lego WeDo, Dashbots or Ozobots
  • How circuits and electricity work
  • How to program interactive stories or animations
  • Build apps and games
