  • How does it work?

    Our virtual classroom teaches your child programming skills in your home.

    1:6 teacher:student ratio with an experienced blue{shift} teacher leading the class.

    With five daily lessons our virtual classroom is a great form of social learning - kids explore code together!

  • Each student will need:

    • A laptop or computer with a high-speed internet connection
    • A headset/earphones
    • A webcam and a microphone
    • An adult to help set-up

    Before each session, we will provide instructions on setting up our video conference software.

Using video conferencing software, our virtual classroom provides students with an innovative approach to coding that balances learning computational skills with nurturing students’ curiosity and sense of discovery.

With a maximum teacher:student ratio of 1:6, each of our online courses is the perfect opportunity to engage kids and grow their coding confidence! Once set-up within our virtual learning environment, every member of the class can share their screen and other materials with the teacher, creating a collaborative atmosphere and ensuring every student can receive immediate feedback on their work.

In this course, students and parents are guided through a series of tutorials to understand how the Scratch programming language works. We’ll make simple animations, games, and come away with some take home projects to be proud of.

We will cover how to use the Scratch interface, move characters and objects around the screen, learn what loops are and how to use them,  improve our touch-typing skills, and much more!

Students and parents will leave our virtual classroom inspired to continue on their coding journey, with a strong foundation in Scratch and block-based coding, and able to move on to our more advanced Scratch courses.

Course Structure

  • Day One: The teacher and the class introduce each other. Once acquainted, the class will start learning all about how they can use Scratch!
  • Day Two: In their second lesson, students learn about the fundamentals of animation. They will look at how they can move characters and objects around the screen to create stories.
  • Day Three: Now being well into the course, students begin to explore key features for any programmer - in this lesson they will investigate loops and look at the various way they can implement these in their own games.
  • Day Four: Students continue to learn vital aspects of any coding language; moving onto conditionals, students will create an interactive project that can be instructed to make it's own decisions.
  • Day Five: On the final day of the course, the class will tackle a number of exciting challenges and puzzles designed to put the skills from the last four days into practice!

This course aims to cover easier coding concepts and logic than our other Scratch-based courses, and serves as the perfect introduction to coding and computer science. Students will leave the week with key programming knowledge, improved problem-solving skills, and a strong foundation that they can use to progress onto more in-depth courses and projects!

We ask that (for at least the first session) you are available to help your child with their coding for the entirety of the lesson. You are also welcome to accompany your child for the remaining lessons too - we love parents and children learning together!

Your child will learn:

  • About the fundamental building blocks of coding; they will be able to explain computational concepts such as algorithms, conditions, and loops!
  • Coding best practices and useful practical skills such as touch-typing.
  • How to be confident and knowledgable when using computing equipment; they will understand features such as inputs and outputs.
  • Important logical reasoning and problem solving skills.
  • How to create their own animated videos and simple computer games.
