I started to learn to code in school. I remember I was fascinated about creating something that others could see and use, and having unlimited possibilities to do it. I always saw coding in a creative way, and liked that there were different ways of getting to a result. Later I became interested in the graphical part of coding as well - constructing rectangles and adding colours just with lines of code, a whole new world that existed inside the computer. One of my favourite projects I did was at university. I chose to construct a virtual city, where people could walk on the streets, next to the buildings, parks, trees - all created using code. The project was quite conceptual, it also had a map like a labyrinth, and the user could experience everything in first person perspective. The teachers and students were very impressed about it being an original idea for a project. I believe learning to code is important not only for developing the technical skills that would help children in their future careers, but also empowering them to add their input and make their decisions about technology. Since the future is inevitably going to include computers, it is important to also look at how technology is being used and how it is influencing society.
