How to throw a virtual party
With England back in lockdown, and restrictions on socialising looking like they’re set to continue across the UK for a little while longer, many people may be wondering how they can celebrate special occasions virtually. From lockdown birthdays to virtual Christmas parties, we’ve got a few top tips to make sure your online event goes without a hitch…
1. Use video conferencing software
We’re sure no one has survived 2020 without downloading Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, or one of the many other video conferencing platforms. While these are fantastic tools for school and work, they’re also great for socialising; getting us as close to our friends as possible. With everyone on video, you can chat, play games and celebrate as if you were together.
2. Don’t forget the snacks
What’s a party without party food? While you can’t all gather around a buffet table of beige food together right now, you can send out ‘party packs’, order a takeaway or send your guests a shopping list for nibbles. And while we’re talking about food, if you’re celebrating a birthday, don’t forget the cake! Using video conferencing means you can still present a cake and sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the birthday boy or girl.
3. Plan an activity
Just like a traditional party, it’s good to plan a few games and activities for your online event. You could host a quiz, have a treasure hunt racing to find items from around the house, or play your favourite online game with friends. Why not learn something new? If the birthday child is interested in crafts, baking or game-making, you could all follow along with an online tutorial or hire a teacher to join your event.
4. Have a theme
Just like a traditional party, virtual parties can be themed around your favourite things. Whether it’s their favourite animal, superhero, movie or video game, a theme will help bring your party together. Let people know the theme when you invite them and request fancy dress, or create and send everyone a virtual background to set the scene.
Or you could let us throw your perfect party for you. Our virtual Minecraft parties are perfect for lockdown birthdays or Christmas get-togethers for game-loving children aged 8-12. Find out more here.
