As AI becomes more and more common, help your child navigate the new world with our Adventures in AI course. As well as covering theoretical knowledge of machine learning techniques and ethics, this course will teach them to use AI in more practical ways, creating a recipe generation program using JavaScript, a Snapchat-esque face filter using Scratch, and learning the basics of prompt engineering using ChatGPT and other popular machine learning applications.
Learning outcomes
We'll be using a combination of a machine learning library for Scrach, JavaScript as well as the ChatGPT interface to learn all about AI and its capabilities. Please email hello@blueshiftcoding.com for a day by day breakdown of activities.
Machine Learning models We'll use ‘Machine Learning for Kids’ to develop different projects such as a face recognition tool and a music generator. We'll also develop our own version of Spotify DJ.
AI versus Machine Learning How do computers ‘learn’ from data?
AI landscape We'll discuss the tools that are publicly available at present and what the differences are.
Prompt engineering We'll discuss how this works and how we can use it to get the best results from AI engines
AI ethics What are the ethics around AI; how should it be developed and used?
Information for parents
This course will use no additional software that needs to be downloaded in advance.
Camp structure
First off we'll get to know our teacher and classmates through some great mini games. Once we're all friends, we'll be introduced to our activity for the day. Let's jump in to coding!
We'll have a short stretch and will begin our second activity. We might continue making our game or animation, especially, if we've spent some time planning our work with drawings and storyboards.
Now that we've had a healthy snack, we're ready to get right back into our third activity. We'll carry on flexing our creative muscles by designing, coding and building our projects.
Let's refocus after lunch and playtime by diving into building robots!
It's time to start our late afternoon activity. Usually we'll do something creative like digital art, practicing our digital skills by using the mouse to create art and animations.
Our last lesson of the day is an opportunity to finish up our work, recap on what we've learned today and tidy up ready for home time!
I liked making my robot move!

Campers should not be brought to camp if they are displaying signs of illness. In the case of a camper who has become ill during camp hours, parents will be notified immediately to pick their child up. If a child misses a day or multiple days of camp because of an illness, credit towards another camp can be arranged for when they're feeling better.
Refund policy
You can cancel your camp booking up to 14 days prior to the start date. If you want to cancel your camp booking less than 14 days before, you can receive 50% refund or full credit towards future courses when cancelling between 13-7 days before, or full credit when cancelling less than 7 days before. If we are unable to run our camps, you will receive credit or a full refund. If you cancel for any reason you may be liable to pay the difference if our prices increase.
