Join us for an exciting day of creativity and innovation as we challenge young minds to create their own winter-themed video games. Using platforms like Scratch or GameMaker, participants will work from concept to playable game within the day, with prizes for creativity and execution.
Learning outcomes
Participants will engage in rapid game development, honing their creative and coding skills as they turn their ideas into functional games. Through this process, they will learn about game design fundamentals, including character design, level building, and programming logic. By the end of the session, kids will have developed a better understanding of game loops, player interaction, and debugging, while also fostering their teamwork and presentation skills as they showcase their games.
Information for parents
It is beneficial to bring a laptop if you can to enable your child to save their work to continue developing their skills. We also advise that you download the relevant software prior to the workshop. Setting this software up is easy and we will provide you with comprehensive set-up instructions before your lessons begin, so do check your email!
Camp structure
First off we'll get to know our teacher and classmates through some great mini games. Once we're all friends, we'll be introduced to our activity for the day. Let's jump in to coding!
Now that we've had a healthy snack, we're ready to get right back into our activity. We'll carry on flexing our creative muscles by designing, coding and building our project.
Let's refocus after lunch and playtime by diving into building our robots!
It's time to finish off our project for the day and show it off to the rest of the class. Time has flown by - let's tidy up our work stations, pack up our things and get ready to go home!
My favourite part was all the coding
